Liverpool’s rivals get ready to make a move for Cody Gakpo as a three-team transfer race kicks off.
Liverpool star Cody Gakpo is catching the eye of several clubs, with a Premier League rival reportedly ready to make a big offer for the Dutch forward. Even though Gakpo is currently with the Netherlands team preparing for the World Cup, his future at Liverpool isn’t clear.
There have been talks that Gakpo is worried about his role under the new head coach, Andoni Iraola. Just last week, TEAMtalk suggested that Liverpool might use Gakpo as part of a deal to sign RB Leipzig’s left winger Yan Diomande.
Now, according to CaughtOffside, two other Premier League clubs are watching closely, even though Gakpo’s contract with Liverpool runs until 2030. Spurs are said to be leading the race and have prepared an offer of €70 million (£60.4 million) to try to sign him this summer.
At the same time, Newcastle United is also keeping an eye on Gakpo, and Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich are in the mix, having shown interest last summer before choosing to bring in Luis Díaz instead. Bayern still have their sights set on other players too, like Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford and Arsenal’s Gabriel Martinelli, after missing out on Anthony Gordon, who went to Barcelona.
According to sources, Gakpo hasn’t made a final choice yet. Talks about his future will happen after the World Cup, and Spurs are expected to officially approach Liverpool about a deal. If Gakpo moves to Spurs, he’ll reunite with his former Liverpool teammate Andrew Robertson, who joined Spurs on a free transfer in June.
Since coming from PSV in 2023, Gakpo has scored 50 goals in 180 games, playing a big part in Liverpool’s Carabao Cup win in 2024 and their Premier League title in 2025.
This summer, several Liverpool players might leave. Federico Chiesa and Curtis Jones have uncertain futures, while Ibrahima Konaté and Mohamed Salah have already confirmed they’re leaving.
Liverpool is also linked with some players from Bournemouth — Alex Scott, Rayan, Adrien Truffert, and Eli Junior Kroupi — who have all played under Iraola before. Plus, the Reds are said to be interested in South Korea’s Lee Han-beom, a centre-back from FC Midtjylland.
