Marcus Rashford’s activity on social media has caught attention as reports say Barcelona may not be using the option to buy him permanently. Rashford is on loan at Barcelona from Manchester United for the whole season, ending in June.

He scored 14 goals and made 10 assists for Barcelona, helping them win the La Liga title. The 28-year-old also got called back to the England team and was picked by Thomas Tuchel for the 2026 World Cup.

Last week, reports said Barcelona hadn’t completely ruled out buying Rashford but any deal would depend on other transfers. Manchester United were open to talking about a different, better deal that might let Barcelona pay less than the €30 million buy option in the loan.

United know Rashford really wants to join Barcelona over other options. But now, it seems Barcelona have told United they won’t pay the €30 million fee. Marca says Barcelona won’t sign Rashford for next season, though this could still change if a different deal is made.

While Rashford is getting ready for the World Cup, his team is likely keeping him updated on what’s happening with his club future. For now, it looks like he will return to Manchester United when his loan ends—something that seemed unlikely when Ruben Amorim was Barca’s coach.

The new Barca coach, Michael Carrick, hasn’t ruled out Rashford staying at United. Rashford’s recent social media moves might hint at this too. He has removed ‘Barcelona’ from his Instagram bio, and it’s no longer on his Twitter either. Still, two of his three pinned Instagram photos are about Barcelona: one celebrating and one showing him signing his contract with club president Joan Laporta.

Rashford also gave useful advice to his England teammate Anthony Gordon, who has just joined Barcelona from Newcastle for about £75 million. Gordon shared that Rashford told him how great the team and city are and what to expect when he arrives at Camp Nou after the World Cup.

“He was telling me how good the lads are there, the team spirit that they have, which I’ve heard from others at Barca too,” Gordon said. “I’m really looking forward to joining them. He also told me about the city and places to live. He’s a lovely, caring guy and was just giving me some helpful info.”
