Teammates shocked as Argentina player breaks trophy while celebrating win
Spartak Moscow players and fans were left quite surprised when Pablo Solari accidentally broke the trophy the team had just won on Sunday. Spartak faced Krasnodar in the Russian Cup final, ending 1-1 before winning 4-2 in the penalty shootout. Solari scored Spartak’s goal in the final, but the celebration took a turn when he broke the trophy while posing with it.
With fans cheering behind him, Solari raised the trophy, but one part slipped off and shattered on the ground. The former River Plate forward looked a bit confused about what to do next. Cameras showed fans and teammates covering their faces in shock over the mishap. The video quickly spread online, but Solari wasn’t really at fault since the trophy’s design seemed a bit fragile – he just picked it up.
One of the most famous trophy accidents happened with Real Madrid’s former captain Sergio Ramos back in 2011. Real beat Barcelona 1-0 in extra time to win the Copa del Rey, with Cristiano Ronaldo scoring the winner. It was Real’s first win in 18 years, and the team planned a big bus parade to celebrate. But early in the morning around 4 a.m., the 33-pound trophy fell from the top of the bus. Ramos was responsible, and the bus’s right front wheel ran over the trophy, breaking it to pieces. Because of this, the trophy was missing when Real held a special ceremony in Madrid’s Plaza de Cibeles.
Ramos laughed about it later on social media, joking: “The whole thing about the cup was a misunderstanding, it didn’t fall… it jumped off when it reached Cibeles and saw so many Madrid fans. Hahaha… but don’t worry… have a good day.” A jeweler made a replica trophy, and the broken one is now kept in the Royal Spanish Football Federation museum, remembering the funny accident months later.
