Daniel Farke just pointed out a big Man Utd problem in two words after the Leeds draw, and fans aren’t pleased.
Daniel Farke has accidentally pointed out a big problem Manchester United is facing right now after Leeds’ 1-1 draw at Elland Road on Sunday.
Leeds kept their unbeaten streak at home in the Premier League against United. Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored in the second half to equalize after Bryan Mbeumo had put the visitors ahead.
But it’s the very different reactions from the two managers after the match that upset some United fans.
After the game, Leeds coach Farke told BBC Sport he was “a bit disappointed” because he thought Leeds were the better team at home. “I thought we controlled the game,” he said. “But Manchester United are a strong team and dangerous anytime. We slipped up once, and they took their chance. We missed some good opportunities because our decisions near the goal weren’t sharp enough. In the second half, we started well and scored, but then our shots went over the bar or our crosses were too long, so we couldn’t do more. Overall, a solid point. We created many good chances. Yes, there’s some difference in quality compared to the top teams, but we are satisfied.”
On the other hand, United coach Michael Carrick called the match a “fresh start,” even though United have now failed to win six of their last seven Premier League games. This came after Lisandro Martinez openly criticized the club’s board following their 2-0 loss to Atletico Madrid on Tuesday night.
Carrick said, “It’s important that as a team we know how big this game is. It wasn’t perfect. Sometimes we played well, sometimes very well. Confidence isn’t very high, but the players are trying their best. I thought we defended well together and gave everything. Credit to Daniel (Farke) and his team – they are strong and tough to beat. The players stood up well today.”
At his post-match press conference, Carrick added, “We’re not getting carried away just because we didn’t win. It felt like a fresh start. The players really want to improve.”
Many United fans on Twitter weren’t happy with Carrick calling the draw a “fresh start” and compared his comments to Farke’s more critical take. One fan asked, “Carried away with what exactly?” Another said, “Seven points after seven games, out of the league race, and it’s a fresh start?” A third wrote, “Our standards are so low now.” A fourth added, “It’s sad that this performance is seen as a big positive. Our standards have dropped too much.”
