Tyson Fury’s manager has added another twist to the much-anticipated British superfight with Anthony Joshua. Fury called out Joshua after easily beating Arslanbek Makhmudov in his comeback fight earlier this month. The Gypsy King noticed Joshua sitting in the crowd at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and made it clear that the only fight that matters is between the two former world champions.

Joshua has stayed quiet about making the fight official, but his promoter and good friend, Eddie Hearn, said Joshua would prefer a tune-up fight before facing Fury, possibly toward the end of 2026. Now, Spencer Brown, Fury’s manager, seems to agree. Speaking to Goldstar Promotions, Brown said, “We’ve signed, we’re just waiting – we’re ready to go. But since Tyson was out of the ring for a long time before coming back, we’d probably want another fight first – a proper warm-up, then we’re ready.”

Fury retired in December 2024 after losing twice in a row to undefeated champion Oleksandr Usyk but decided to come back after a 14-month break, even though his family wasn’t thrilled. He looked sharp against Makhmudov, winning by unanimous decision without missing a beat.

Brown also mentioned that the delay might be because Joshua hasn’t signed the contract yet. “We’re just waiting for Anthony and Eddie to sign. We’re ready to go; it’s just about making it official now.”

Joshua’s last fight was on December 19th, where he broke Jake Paul’s jaw in a big Netflix event. Ten days later, Joshua was in a car crash in Nigeria that tragically took the lives of two close friends, though he escaped with minor injuries.

There’s no venue set yet, but Wembley seems like a natural choice for a fight between Britain’s biggest boxing stars. Brown added, “It really depends on His Excellency Turki Al-Sheikh. We’d love Wembley, but it depends on timing, availability, and the weather. It could be anywhere – we’ve done winter fights before in freezing conditions.”

After a long wait, it’s looking like this year might finally be when Fury and Joshua face off inside the ring.
